“We bought links for a year. Nothing moved.”
A link building agency can buy you links. Choosing the right pages is what makes them work.
Most link buying fails for a boring reason: the links point at pages that were never going to win. I start from your own Search Console data, find the pages already close enough to move, weigh them against what competitors have earned and what a link to each page actually costs, and only then go out and build. Placement runs through vetted specialist providers. The selection, the sequencing, and the measurement stay with me.

“Half the links I audit point at pages with no search intent at all. The budget was spent before the strategy existed.”
“Does link building even still work?”
Authority is being re-priced.
Search volume for link building terms has fallen sharply year over year while the cost per click on those terms has held. The demand did not evaporate. It moved, along with everything else, into assistants that answer the question directly. That matters more here than on any other service, because a link and a citation do the same job. Both are a machine telling other machines that you are worth trusting. Across the rankings my platform tracks, 16% of verified positions earn impressions and no clicks at all: the answer was assembled, sources were chosen, and the visit never happened. An authority program that counts only backlinks is now counting half of what it is buying.

What is AI citation building?
AI citation building is the practice of earning mentions and source citations for a business inside AI-generated answers, the way link building earns backlinks inside search results. Both are forms of machine-readable authority: a backlink is one site vouching for another, and a citation is an AI assistant deciding your page is worth quoting or naming when it answers a question. The methods overlap, because the same signals that make a site worth linking to make it worth citing, but the measurement is different. Links are counted in a backlink index. Citations have to be observed per question and per engine, by asking the assistants the questions your buyers ask and recording whether your business is named, cited as a source, or absent.
Link building has always been about convincing machines you are credible. That has not changed. What changed is which machines are deciding, and whether anyone is watching the new ones.
“What exactly does the work cover?”
What the work covers
Link opportunity selection
Before a single link is placed, three questions get answered for every candidate page. Which pages are already close enough that authority will move them, verified in your own Search Console data. Where competitors have earned links you have not. And what a link to each page realistically costs against what that page is worth to the business. Pages that fail all three do not get links, and that decision saves more budget than any discount.
Digital PR
Earning coverage and mentions by giving publications something worth writing about: data, a point of view, or a story tied to your market. The links follow the coverage, and so do the citations, because assistants read the same publications.
Guest posting and editorial placement
Placements on relevant, genuinely-read sites, executed through vetted specialist providers and pointed at the pages selection identified. Relevance and quality of the placement matter more than the raw count, which is why the count is never the goal.
Backlink profile audit
A review of what already points at your site: what is helping, what is inherited from previous agencies, and what carries risk. Where something is genuinely harmful, disavow is a considered decision, not a reflex.
AI citation building
Tracking whether assistants name your business, cite it as a source, or leave it out entirely, question by question and engine by engine, then building the content and authority that changes the answer. This is the part almost nobody is measuring yet.
Internal linking and authority architecture
Authority you already have, routed to the pages that need it. The cheapest links you will ever get are the ones already on your own site, pointed in the wrong direction.

“Does the data hold up?”
Measured, not promised
You will not find a domain rating guarantee or a monthly link quota here, because neither is a promise anyone can honestly make. What you get instead is a record: which pages were selected and why, what was placed, and what moved afterward in your own Search Console data and in the AI answers tracked for your queries. The figures above come from live client work, anonymized. Nothing on this page is a screenshot of someone else's case study.
“If a provider guarantees you a domain rating, ask them to guarantee revenue instead and watch the meeting end.”

What does a link building agency actually do?
A link building agency acquires links from other websites to yours, usually through outreach, digital PR, or editorial placement. The part that varies most between providers is target selection: which of your pages the links point at, and why those pages were chosen. Volume is easy to sell and easy to measure. Selection is what determines whether the links change anything.
Does link building still work in 2026?
Yes, with a caveat. Links still function as a credibility signal for search engines, and the same signals influence which sources AI assistants cite when they answer questions. What no longer works is buying volume without regard to which pages receive the links or whether those pages could rank at all. The mechanism is intact. The lazy version of it never worked as well as it was sold.
Is guest posting safe?
Guest posting is safe when the placement is relevant, the site has a real audience, and the content is worth reading on its own. It becomes risky when it is bulk placement on sites that exist only to sell links. The distinction is quality and relevance, not the format itself, which is why placements are chosen individually rather than bought in packages.
What is digital PR and how is it different from link building?
Digital PR earns coverage by giving publications a reason to write about you, such as original data, expertise, or a story relevant to their readers. Links are a consequence rather than the purchase. Traditional link building starts from the link and works backward. Digital PR usually produces fewer links, of higher quality, and it tends to influence AI citations more, because assistants read those same publications.
How much does link building cost?
It depends on how competitive your market is and how many pages genuinely warrant investment, which is exactly what target selection determines. Engagement models are published on the pricing page so you can see how this practice structures cost before getting on a call.
How do backlinks relate to being cited by AI assistants?
They are closely related but not the same thing. Sites that earn quality links tend to be the sites assistants draw from, so authority work helps both. The difference is measurement. Backlinks appear in a backlink index, while citations only show up if you ask the assistants the questions your buyers ask and record whether your business is named, cited as a source, or absent. That tracking is part of this work.
